1.48 yuan for Board and Lodging

在江西瑞金中央革命根据地纪念馆，有一本特殊的账簿。“十捌号主席毛澤東住，付还大洋1元4角8分”，这几个毛笔写的字，讲述了一个有关“清廉”的故事。

There is a special account book in the Central Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall in Ruijin, Jiangxi. “Chairman Mao Zedong paid 1.48 yuan for his accommodation on 18th this month.”—these characters written with a writing brush tell a story about moral integrity.

1934年，毛泽东同志一行人在江西开展调研，特意嘱托时任江西军区参谋长陈奇涵，缴纳食宿费大洋“1元4角8分”。于是账簿上有了这样的记录。

In 1934, while Chairman Mao Zedong and the accompanying group were carrying out a survey in Jiangxi Province, he especially entrusted Chen Qihan, Chief of Staff of Jiangxi Military Region at that time, with paying 1.48 yuan for his accommodation; hence the record in the account book.

瑞金中央革命根据地纪念馆副馆长杨艳华说，这本账簿反映了毛主席廉洁自律,深入调查研究的工作作风，是当时苏区干部好作风的生动体现。

Yang Yanhua, Deputy Director of Ruijin Central Revolutionary Base Memorial Hall, said that the account book reflects Chairman Mao’s incorruptible self-discipline and his way of in-depth investigation and research, being a vivid embodiment of the good working style of the cadres in the Jiangxi–Fujian Soviet area at that time.
