Chen Bo: Set Rules for Children with Party Membership Certificate

老一辈无产阶级革命家、“独臂将军”陈波，从小裁缝成长为红军将领，南征北战，为中国人民的革命、解放事业和新中国国防和军队建设作出了卓越贡献。

Chen Bo, a proletarian revolutionist and “one-armed general”of the older generation, fought battles throughout the length and breadth of the country, growing up to be a general of the Red Army from a young tailor. He made outstanding contributions to the revolution and liberation of the Chinese people, the national defense, and military construction of New China.

作为1929年入党的老党员，陈波重视交纳党费，把交党费作为体现自己组织观念的方式之一。他有一个用了几十年的小本，每次交完党费，都请小组长签名。有同志问他这个小本的作用。陈波说，经常翻阅这个小本，可以想到过去的艰苦岁月、可以检查自己执行党支部决议的情况。

As an old communist who joined the Communist Party in 1929, Chen Bo attached great importance to deliver the party membership dues, which was one of the ways to reflect his organizational concept. He had a small notebook that had been used for decades. Every time he paid the party membership dues, he asked the group leader to sign his name. Some comrades asked him about the function of this small notebook. Chen Bo said that he often looked through this small notebook to recall the hard times of the past and to check his implementation of the resolutions of the Party branch.

陈波重视子女教育。1965年，陈波的大女儿即将初中毕业。一天，他正在批阅文件，女儿央求他给自己走门路升学或找个理想的工作，认为凭着爸爸为革命付出的一只胳膊和两条残腿，“人家也会照顾的”。

Chen Bo laid much stress on his children’s education. In 1965, Chen Bo’s eldest daughter was about to graduate from junior high school. One day, when he was reading the documents, his daughter asked him to help her get into the high school or find an ideal job through seeking favorable social connections, with his father’s sacrifice for the country’s revolution, as a one-armed general. There will be some benefits.

陈波不同意，认真对她说：“孩子，革命为我留下这两条残腿，是要我去走先烈没有走完的路。如果凭着它去要照顾、谋私利，烈士纪念碑上的石头也会流泪。”

Chen Bo disagreed and said to his daughter seriously, “my dear child, the revolution has take one arm away from me, meanwhile kept my legs to go on the revolutionary road that the martyrs did not finish. If we only seek social favorable connections for our own profit with my sacrifice, the stone of the monument of the martyrs will shed tears. ”

陈波取出自己血染的党证说：“今天，对着我的党证立条家规：以后谁也不准利用党对我的信任要照顾、谋私利！”

Chen Bo took out his bloodstained Party Membership Certificate and said, “Today, facing it, I set up a family rule: no one is allowed to use the party’s trust in me to require extra special care and seek personal benefits in the future.”

陈波用党证定下的家规，被子女牢记心头，大女儿后来主动要求到北京郊区南口农场当林业工人，其他孩子也一个个到陕北农村插队劳动，接受锻炼。

The rules of Chen Bo’s family, set with his Party Membership Certificate, were remembered by his children. Later, his eldest daughter took the initiative to work as a forestry worker at Nankou farm in the suburb of Beijing, and other children also joined the team in the rural areas of Northern Shaanxi for training.

陈波坚持加强党的观念，严格要求自己和家人，不忘初心、对党忠诚的精神值得我们学习。
